Staying Focused Despite Life’s Distractions

Kai Obrien
As Entrepreneurs we are always looking for tips on how to market and implement proven systems to grow our business. This is great but the key to implementing these tips is to stay Focused.  I have learned that having the desire, the ideas and even the resources in place is not going to get your business off the ground if you lack focus and the tenacity to plow through life’s distractions.

Many of us have the dream to work from home fulltime and to have the financial freedom to take care of our families. Is that your dream? If so, In order for those dreams to become reality you must pluck them from the sky, create a plan of action and stay focused each day on the task to make them a reality. Some people don’t have to formulate a “why” because they are driven by pure necessity. Their need drives them into action allowing nothing to get in their way because failure is not an option because there is no choice but to succeed. No matter, if your why is a dream or a need, it has to be big enough and real enough in order for you to stay focused in 2011.

As you write your plan of action for this year I know that you may have to consider all your roles and responsibilities in life and try to formulate a realistic plan of attack. You may be a mother, work full time, married or even taking care of elderly parents. Keeping your many roles in mind, you may have to make some short term sacrifices for long term rewards. Take an honest look at all the items on your plate and decide which ones you will have to give up, replace or rearrange in order to make it happen for you and your family. If what I just said does not sit right with you, then I challenge you to reconsider your why? In order to remain focused you must identify your real “Why” that is specific and powerful enough to propel you to find solutions not excuses. Being a business owner is not for everyone so if your why does not provoke you to take action you may want to reconsider.

Your “Why” will reveal the motives in your business and sort out those who will be here for a season or those who will cross the finish line. A person who is really focused will learn how to make a way when there appears to be no way, develop tough skin when others don’t see the vision and bounce back when things don’t pan out like they hoped. Remaining focused takes a strong mental fortitude when it’s much easier to quit. This is why having your “Why” identified is so vitality important to remain focused. When there are things that need to get done to reach your goal for the week and your at a cross road which will you choose? Will you have the discipline to follow the plan? Are you focused enough to see the trade off is in your favor? A person with focus comes up with the “How” to meet their deadlines knowing that sticking to the plan is what prevents setbacks and delays. Does this sound like you? If not then make it your mission in 2011 to re-evaluate your why and zoom in on your goals.

Here are some ideas to help you get re-focused in 2011*,
·        Start your year with a Vision Board and place the board where you and your whole family can see it.
·        Identify your why
·        Get with a coach to create a realistic action plan to reach your money markers
·        Make use of your time with a hour-by-hour planner
·        Get creative with your time-Wake up earlier, Go to bed Later, make use of transit time
·        Make a Busy Mommy box with toys your children can only play when your doing business
·        Ask family for assistance and make it a family business so all is invested in the success

Implement the above solutions into your action plan decided to that no matter what distractions life throws your way that you will to stay focused in 2011. To let nothing get you off course and to pursue your dream with vigor. Your dream is never too big! I believe it’s possible but do you? If not then look at the many women before you who stayed focused and have set the bar for Women Entrepreneurs with a dream. You can have your dream but are you willing to remain focused, and stay on course to get it.

I wish you great success in 2011,
Kai oBrien
